These Sloppy Joes are made with ground turkey instead of hamburger. If you’re serving them at a backyard party, they’ll be sure to please those looking for something lighter among the big burgers, heavy salads and rich desserts.

Keep the calories down, too, by using small hamburger buns, not kaiser rolls or oversized buns. Each bun holds about one-half cup of filling--not too sloppy.

The filling can be made a day ahead and reheated. Just grill the buns at the last minute; spray them with nonstick cooking spray or lightly brush them with oil before placing them on the grill.

1

Cook the onions in the butter in a 4-quart saucepan over medium heat until tender, about 5 minutes. Remove from the pan; set aside.

2

Spray the saucepan with nonstick cooking spray. Add the turkey and cook, stirring occasionally, until the turkey is no longer red, about 5 minutes.

3

Stir in the celery, bell pepper, brown sugar, salt, Worcestershire sauce, chili sauce and vinegar. Bring to a simmer, cover and cook 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
