Total time: 1 hour, plus 1 hour cooling | Serves 8 to 10
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup good bourbon
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup finely chopped walnuts or pecans
  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie shell

Step 1Heat the oven to 350 degrees.

Step 2Combine the sugar, flour and salt in a mixing bowl and toss with a fork until mixed. Add the eggs, butter and bourbon and mix really well. Stir in the chocolate chips and walnuts. Scrape into the pie shell. Bake until the top feels firm to the touch, 45 minutes.

Step 3Cool the pie on a rack at least 1 hour before slicing and serving with whipped cream (flavored with a little bourbon if you like). Once it's cut, it can be reheated for better flavor.
